Expression Exhibition

Sunglasses were chosen as a topic for everyday exploration. Sunglasses started as functional objects but grew in society to become a form of expression.

This project includes a plan for a 1:18 outside exhibit, an infographic of Sunglasses in history and a game to encourage interaction.

  • An exhibition must be made that incorporates an infographic of an everyday object. Expand creatively on this object and analyze the different aspects that makes up this item.

  • While being inspired by the growth of sunglasses into the fashion industry, I was inspired to create something that could be a risograph print. Risography is known for transparency, which reminds me of tinted lenses in sunglasses. The bright colors to me represent people’s differing and unique personalities. Everything is about shining your inner light.

  • This was my first time using acrylic plastics. I had to buy the acrylic and the many tools to sculpt it. This was a huge learning process that included learning how to properly heat and meld the pieces. I had to be very patient while staying precise.

The typeface chosen was Halyard for its clarity, density and tighter kerning than similar fonts.

A 15”x 20” poster with an infographic detailing the progression of sunglass styles. Styles progress from the left side, functionality, to the right side, fashion-focused. Sunglasses were first made a tactical object used to protect during daily tasks for Inuit tribes, entertainment during Roman times, and emotion concealment during Chinese court gatherings. Throughout history, sunglasses serve a function but have evolved to now be a form.

This miniature exhibit shows how from the left, sunglasses were protecting people from elements on the outside. As you move to the right, it is about how sunglasses shine outwardly what is inside.

The typeface matches the poster and game.

This game aims for participants to interact and find community. The cards and light are easily moveable. With each person standing behind their acrylic cards, they shine and share their colors with their partner. When the colors come together, they shine brightly.

The type was made to be minimalistic like the exhibit.
